Every year, OHI releases their Generational Camping Report, documenting camping trends across the US. For campsite owners and operators, this report is a goldmine of info, especially when it comes to the habits of younger campers.
So how can campsites stay on top of these changing trends? It all comes down to adaptability.

How the Camping Landscape is Changing

One of the biggest generational differences OHI found is that Millennials and Gen Z are camping less frequently than their older counterparts. When asked how many times they’ve been camping, RVing or “glamping” in the past 12 months, Boomer/Silent Generation respondents averaged five times, while Millennial and Gen Z respondents averaged four.

While this may not seem like a huge difference at first glance, that’s 20% fewer yearly camping trips for this cohort. And for campsite operators, that discrepancy poses long-term challenges, especially for businesses still reeling from losses related to the pandemic.

The good news: OHI’s report paints a clear picture of what campgrounds can do to win more business with younger visitors.

Young People Want More Amenities

While the data doesn’t define exactly why younger generations are camping and glamping less, the report does outline the factors driving Millennial and Gen Z camping destination decisions.

Among all generations, things like location and proximity to attractions, campground atmosphere, and quality and types of sites available are top markers of a successful campsite. Where younger folks diverge from their older counterparts is in onsite recreation, activities, and amenities. While only 34% of Boomer and Silent Generation (and 45% of Gen X) respondents cite amenities as an influencing factor, 65% of Millennials and Gen Z prefer to choose campsites with strong amenities.

Findings like these aren’t much of a surprise. In the past decade or so, trends like Van Life and the Covid-inspired shift to remote work have shown that, for more and more young people, the great outdoors isn’t just a place to vacation – it’s a setting upgrade for their normal lives. Wherever these folks travel, there’s a greater-than-ever chance that they’ll need to be able to cook, shower, and get online once they arrive.

Simply put, young people want more from their outdoors experience – and they’re not going to budge from those preferences. For many travelers, the rustic nature of camping is the very thing that attracts them to outdoor travel – but that’s not as safe an assumption as it once was. Campgrounds need to adapt, and as CEO of RVshare Jon Gray explains, leaning into these different preferences can give operators the leg up they need to survive and thrive.

“Adapting to the changing demographic and preferences is crucial industry-wide. We are coming off the biggest tailwind this industry has ever seen, and to maintain category interest, we need to meet the customers where they are.”

Why Yurts are the Perfect Choice for the Future of Glamping

It might seem like a tough task to win over the next generation of campers, but campground owners and operators don’t have to completely change their business model. A few strategic changes can give younger campers exactly what they want. Yurts, for example, are inherently better equipped to provide the kind of amenities Millennials and Gen Z are looking for, including:

  • WiFi and electrical outlets
  • Showers and bathrooms
  • Lighting
  • Kitchens
  • Temperature control

Because yurts are much quicker and easier to install than traditional cabins – and have a much lower impact on the land – you can get them up and running without subjecting your site to an intensive landscaping effort. This makes yurts much more gentle to nature and the environment, which is just one more thing that makes them attractive to younger generations who, statistically, feel more concern over climate change than their elders do.

Even though they’re an ancient form of lodging, yurts make it easy to offer all of the resources and amenities younger campers desire. In that way, they’re the outdoor hospitality industry’s ticket to a thriving future.

Transform Your Business With Yurts

Let’s make one thing clear: While trends are changing, the outdoor travel industry isn’t going anywhere. In fact, a report from Grand View Research projects a growth rate of 8.7% for the glamping industry over the next six years. It’s safe to say we’re in a golden age of glamping, and yurts are leading the way forward.

artist-using-a-yurt-for-business2020 has forever changed our relationship with remote working. Over the course of a few weeks, homes were converted into home offices and dining room tables doubled as desks. As we’ve adjusted to this work-from-home mentality, most companies have opted to slash their costs by ditching offices altogether.

Now, faced with the possibility of working from home for the foreseeable future, it’s time to get creative with our workspaces and explore an up-and-coming option for remote work locations: yurts.

According to a recent survey, over 60% of companies expect working from home to be long-lasting or permanent. While there are benefits of working remotely, it does also come with some challenges. Perhaps the most pronounced obstacle that most remote workers face is how to make their home into a healthy and comfortable place to both live and work. Fresh air, natural lighting, and a tidy desk are no-brainers, but it’s not always possible to have what you need for a successful work day in a house. Utilizing yurts for business can be a next step in transitioning to long term remote work.

There’s an increasing population of people who are turning to yurts for business use to solve this. There are countless ways to use yurts for business spaces. People are creatively transforming yurts into their personal art studios, offices, counseling spaces, classrooms, and much more. You can do the same with Pacific Yurts. Here is how a yurt can transform your home office.

Why Should You Use Yurts for Businesses?

Forget being confined by the already established space of a home. Yurts promote a flexibility that allows you to choose the shape of your workspace. You won’t be constrained by the walls of a home, as yurts allow you to construct your workspace however works best for you. They also offer a retreat from the potential distractions of home. A yurt provides a beautiful and functional environment where you can dive into your work with focus and energy.

Studies have also shown that working in spaces with plants and good lighting promote creativity and reduce stress. It’s easy to find these within yurts. Tall ceilings, open spaces, windows providing natural light, and all the coziness of a cabin make yurts well worth the investment. You also have the ability to personalize a yurt to match your specific needs. Yurts offer a way to connect with nature while maintaining all the comforts of home. They can also be designed to double as a part-time living space, ideal for hosting visitors.

Yurts can be large enough to accommodate multiple members of the same household. Most homes are too small for multiple people to be effectively working from home at the same time. Introducing a yurt to the mix allows for all remote workers of a household to complete their work comfortably and efficiently.

How Do You Make a Yurt Yours?

custom-pacific-yurt-kitchenStep one in making your yurt unique is to determine how you plan to use the space. Will it be a home office, an art studio, or a classroom? Knowing how you plan to use this space will inform you how to fashion the yurt so it checks all the boxes. You’ll know if you need a kitchen unit, individual rooms, and more. Next is to choose a location, perhaps a nearby vacation property or even in your backyard. They come in a variety of sizes to fit your exact parameters. Finally, know the company you’re working with to construct your yurt. Pacific Yurts is committed to making the process stress-free and promises customer satisfaction.

Pacific Yurts for Business Use

As we adjust to working from home being the new norm, it’s more important than ever to ensure our home workspaces feel comfortable and peaceful. When we have a space that meets our needs, we’re efficient employees with less stress and anxiety.

Yurts are a healthy and creative solution to working from home. Contact Pacific Yurts today to learn how you can create your own yurt for business use.

Yurts are no longer solely reserved for overnight accommodations. They’ve been masterfully transformed into art studios, classrooms, meeting spaces, home offices, and more. Yurts have proven themselves to be useful and versatile spaces. Restaurants are embracing yurts to help manage some of the challenges they face with the pandemic. Now that winter is upon us, these same restaurants and bars have wrestled with being able to serve their customers in a comfortable space while doing so safely. Cue yurt dining.

How Are Yurts Being Used In Restaurants Right Now?

You might have noticed restaurants starting to build small structures outside their establishments. They are just big enough to fit a table, a handful of chairs, and some hungry guests. These small yurt-like structures are ideal for keeping restaurant-goers safe. Yurts for restaurants can vary in size depending on the amount of outdoor space allotted to each business. The walls create a barrier between each party that helps restrict unnecessary exposure.

What if a yurt is out of your restaurant’s budget? Some restaurants owners have opted to join forces to create a shared space for each of their establishments to host guests. It’s a great and affordable place to start if you’re restricted by a budget and new to using yurts for business

Yurts are allowing restaurants to create unique and safe spaces to serve their guests. People across different industries are using yurts creatively for their businesses. Restaurant owners interested in introducing yurts to their dining space can take inspiration from these cases. Keep reading to learn about how Pacific Yurts can help your restaurant elevate its dining experience.

Yurt Village Dining at The St. Regis Deer Valley

Pacific Yurts is thrilled to share the news about the opening of Yurt Village at The St. Regis Deer Valley. This luxe mountain resort is beloved by ski buffs and visitors from all over the world. Offering warmth, elegance, and rustic style, the Yurt Village consists of three Pacific Yurts. With intricate lattice work, windows overlooking the stunning view of the Wasatch Mountains, and acrylic stargazing domes, it’s a dining experience like no other.

And we haven’t even mentioned the exquisite food! We invite you to learn more by visiting the Dining Collection at The St. Regis Deer Valley.

This is just one fabulous example of how yurt restaurants are popping up across the country as a solution to dining out while the nation weathers the COVID-19 pandemic. Now you can dine in a luxurious heated yurt. They create a space to eat outdoors while staying cozy and a safe distance from other restaurant guests. Cities and states across the country have granted their restaurants special allowance to add tables on sidewalks and streets, allowing them to safely continue serving customers. Restaurateurs are taking advantage of this to get creative with how they interact with their customer base.

Yurts and Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is an activity traditionally associated with the warmer summer months. Yurts have stepped into the picture to shake up this idea. They can provide a comfortable space to sip wine in any season. Guests can stay warm in the winter and safely social distance year round.

What’s more, they also create unique accommodations in wine country. Staying in wine country hotels can be pricey. Yurts usually cost significantly less while maintaining the same comfortability and relaxing environment that is expected at high-end hotels.

Yurts and Après Ski

Après Ski is a French term used to describe the time that comes after a cold day out skiing. Cabins are traditional, but usually expensive for guests and challenging to maintain. Yurts sit in the perfect middle ground by offering guests an affordable and comfortable place to stay or dine while maintaining minimal general maintenance for owners. Some of the best après skis in America are small but warm spaces near the mountain that are perfect retreats after a chilly day on the slopes.

Restaurant owners can look to these yurts as inspiration for something unique to offer their guests. They provide an isolated and safe space where guests can be sure they aren’t risking exposure. These après ski locations are usually adorned with blankets, heaters, and decorations. Adding some swag can be a fun way to showcase your restaurant’s character and brand.

Après Ski in a Pacific Yurt, Cue the Champagne

Located at the base of the Park City ski slope is glamor in the round. When Veuve Clicquot Champagne chose to create an après ski lounge, they chose a Pacific Yurt. Montage Deer Valley, a go-to luxe resort in Park City, is the site of this stunning après ski destination. Complete with comfy oversized leather furniture and flannel-upholstered armchairs, guests can curl up in fur blankets next to a beautiful fireplace.

And let’s discuss the haute cuisine that complements the bubbly! Caviar, smoked fish, black truffle popcorn, cheeses and charcuterie – need we say more? These savory selections pair perfectly with Veuve’s vintages and their Yellow Label or rosé.

This is truly #Yurtlife at a whole new level.

Restaurant Yurts are Delightful Dining Options That Make a Statement

In a time when many people are hesitant to venture outdoors and into public spaces, yurts give restaurants the opportunity to safely host their guests in a warm and cozy environment. Chefs and their staff can get creative when decorating to make their yurts feel like home. Guests are safely separated from others dining in the restaurant and their contact with the restaurant staff is limited, keeping both the guests and workers safe.

Yurts can make your restaurant stand out against the competitors and allow you to continue to serve your customers. Contact Pacific Yurts today to learn how easy it can be to install a yurt at your restaurant.

The Pacific Yurt is known as an inspirational structure families can use for almost any purpose. For many households, it means having a place where kids can grow their independence in an imaginative setting, giving them an inspirational place to learn, or holding a backyard camping excursion in a unique structure to cultivate the spirit of the warmer weather and keeping us centered. We’re always excited to discover how our customers are using our yurts, so we want to share a few ways you can transform your backyard yurt into a fun place for kids and parents alike.

Transform your yurt into an inspirational classroom

Backyard glamping yurt.

Many of our customers use our yurts as yoga studios, conference rooms, and classrooms because they act as an inspirational place that stimulates learning in a centered environment. Additionally, yurts are versatile structures that are easily adaptable and make for ideal educational settings that minimize distractions. Kids also appreciate how fun they are as a classroom.

If your household has moved to an at-home learning environment because of school closures or otherwise, a backyard yurt is a perfect place to set up a classroom. You can quickly adapt your circular floor plan to accommodate an inspiring learning environment that will boost academic performance by reorganizing furniture and decorating it like a classroom. You can also use the lattice to display work for art classes or use it to teach subjects like history or anthropology by covering historical events in chronological order that your kids can follow along to in a circular order. Alternatively, kids can use the dome as a part of an astronomy class or they can learn about structural geometry – the possibilities are endless!

Turn your yurt into a clubhouse of circular fun

Yurts are excellent retreats for kids to grow and explore their imaginations. A backyard yurt is also a great place for children to have an area where they can develop their sense of self in a creative and inspirational environment they can-almost-call their own. If you’re spending more time at home, a backyard yurt might also be the perfect solution when you need to focus on work.

Start by working as a family to curate an exciting play area or clubhouse that encourages independence and fun. Allow your kids to provide direction on what they want their space to look like and follow along. We’ve seen dinosaur-themed yurts, high-end playhouses and other clubhouse ideas that have left us quite impressed. You can also set up a creative area where your kids can make art and a section dedicated to playing with toys or reading. You should also include storable solutions that allow your kids to stay organized and kid-friendly furniture for added fun as well.

Have a backyard camping retreat with Pacific Yurts

Whether or not you’re the creative type, there are plenty of options when it comes to making the outside of your yurt feel like an authentic campground. You can start by setting up campsite boundaries using stakes, sticks, or other natural materials like rocks. Once your area is ready, you can set up a simple fire pit by digging into the ground and placing stones in a circle or purchasing an outdoor steel fire pit from the store. If you want to get even more creative, you can make your very own campground sign and add twinkle lights to your outdoor exterior space. We also recommend adding the following yurt-themed activities for families to your backyard camping adventure:

  • Making a paper doll yurt
  • Playing a Pacific Yurts word puzzle game
  • Having a family dance party
  • Hosting a scavenger hunt
  • Setting up backyard games like bocce ball, croquet, badminton or others

To complete your backyard yurt camping experience, add a few interior decorations. If you want to go the extra mile, make your yurt a glamping destination with outdoor-themed posters of your favorite parks, an indoor camp stove, and other rustic sundries. Bonus points if you spend the evening reading aloud from John Muir’s journals and end the night planning a hike.

After weeks stuck inside, many folks around the country have gotten creative with how they’re spending their time indoors. If you’re lucky enough to call a yurt your home (or second home), coming up with new and inventive ways to pass the time may feel like a challenge, especially if you have little ones cooped up with you. Luckily for Pacific Yurt owners and aspiring yurt enthusiasts, there are plenty of ways to beat the indoor blues when taking a backyard retreat or family camping trip, which only require common household items.

Here are six yurt-inspired ways to have fun in your circular dwelling!

1. Build a paper doll yurt

If you’re a hands-on crafter, what better way to celebrate your backyard yurt retreat or family camping trip than by creating your very own paper doll yurt? You can collaborate with your family on a single paper doll yurt, or each of you can all do your own!

Tools needed:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

 Instructions:

  1. Print the paper doll yurt PDF here.
  2. Carefully cut out the four pieces.
  3. Apply glue to the backside of the tabs on the platform and then fold the tabs upward.
  1. Apply glue to Side Cover Tab A and fasten the short section of side cover onto it.
  2. Apply glue to all of the tabs on the top of the side cover sections and bend them backward.
  3. Carefully glue the side cover around the perimeter of the platform (starting with Side Cover Tab B) so that the platform tabs adhere to the backside of the side cover.
  1. Apply glue to Side Cover Tab B and adhere to the other end of the side cover onto it.
  2. Apply glue to Top Cover Tab C and adhere to the other end of the top cover onto it.
  3. Carefully adhere the top cover onto the side cover tabs.

2. Make arts and crafts for a yurt-themed gallery

Whether or not you or your family members are creatively inclined, the perfect backyard retreat isn’t complete without some good old fashioned arts and crafts.

If you tend to lean more towards traditionalism, you can let everyone choose what they draw, paint, write, or sculpt. If you’d like to switch up your routine, think of a few different categories and have each family member draw them out of a hat. Whichever one they pick, they then have to create it through the medium of their choice. Once everyone completes their craft, be sure to do a public showing of each piece, and display them around your circular dwelling from the lattice as a part of your very own gallery. Bonus points if you keep them up all year!

3. Get centered and enjoy a family meal

Few things are as special as finding the time to sit down with your loved ones for a home-cooked meal, and your circular backyard retreat is the perfect place to put your cooking skills to the test.

Whether you’re a gourmet chef or a camping cook, there are so many ways to enjoy quality family time while appreciating a quality meal together in a yurt. If your yurt is equipped with a kitchen or cooking space, try getting the whole family involved in the meal prep, whether it’s by crafting intricate pieces of hand-made pasta or simply cutting up vegetables for a stir fry. Better yet, if you have a fire pit at your disposal, grab a package of hot dogs and a few s’mores sticks and spend a night cooking under the stars! Chances are, you’ll all learn something new through the joys of cooking and eating a meal together.

4. Stargaze from your yurt’s dome

One of our favorite things about the yurt is its dome, which allows residents to take in the surrounding beauty of the night sky even without having to step beyond your door. If you’re astronomically inclined, take the chance to point out some of your favorite constellations, or simply ask the younger ones in the group to pick the brightest stars they can find, or try encouraging them to create a constellation map of their very own. Remember, don’t forget to appreciate the vastness and beauty of space from the comfort of your Pacific Yurt. Some of the best memories are made while stargazing with your family from the comfort of your backyard retreat or during a family camping trip.

5. Utilize your yurt’s extra space for a dance party, family-style

Whether your yurt is equipped with a small speaker, a CD player, or a full-on DJ booth, cranking up the tunes and letting loose on your homemade yurt dance floor is an instant way to release some pent up energy and enjoy one another’s company. Start by planning a high-energy playlist before heading to your backyard retreat, but make sure that everyone gets a say on which songs to include. If you’re as spontaneous as you are extroverted, simply play your music, make room for any needed space, and show off your coolest dance moves!

6. Play a Pacific Yurts word search game

If you’re looking for a unique way to engage with your family and still focus on your beloved yurt, the team at Pacific Yurts has put together a series of word search puzzles that are as good for a backyard retreat as they are for a rainy day. Test your yurt vocabulary, and don’t stop until you’ve solved every puzzle!

The Pacific Yurts word searches can be accessed here.

More Pacific Yurt owners are finding unique and lucrative ways to increase the already excellent ROI on their circular dwellings. Fortunately, new apps and online rental sites like Airbnb, Hipcamp, and others are making it easier to make money from your yurt by offering user-friendly platforms to those with an entrepreneurial mindset looking to move into the rental market.

More travelers are also gravitating towards renting a yurt as an alternative to a traditional hotel, which makes them more profitable for many yurt owners looking to capitalize on the glamping trend. According to a study by Arizton, the glamping market in the US alone is projected to reach a revenue of around $1 billion by 2024. Additionally, it’s becoming easier to make a complete yurt rental listing and design an interior that’s entirely comfortable and appealing to any vacationer. Whether you’re a longtime Pacific Yurt owner looking to start a lucrative side hustle, or a newly-interested yurt builder seeking to earn additional income, here are a few of the best places to list your Pacific Yurt rental online.

Airbnb: Yurt Rentals for Any Occasion

As the most popular online rental platform, Airbnb has enjoyed a significant boost in yurt listings thanks to its massive user base and brand appeal. They’ve also added a filter that lets travelers search for yurts individually so travelers can find glamping specific lodging and luxury yurt rentals with more ease. Luckily for Pacific Yurt owners, that exposure and usability increase overall interest in yurt rentals across the site, which translates to more reservations. Keep in mind that Airbnb’s service fees start at 3% and could increase based on cancellation policies and other minor details. However, getting started on Airbnb is risk-free and straightforward, as your yurt’s availability and the price range is entirely up to you.

Hipcamp: Rustic and Glamping Yurts in the Wild

Hipcamp was built for a niche—yet growing—group of users who prefer to market their properties as camping or “glamping” destinations. The main benefit of Hipcamp over other platforms like Airbnb is its millennial appeal and commitment to listing places focused on the outdoors. Meaning, renter expectations tend to lean more toward yurts than they would hotel rooms or homes. For yurt owners, it can become a very lucrative place to list your reservation to capitalize on the growing glamping trend. With no listing fee, it’s also the most comfortable place to rent your yurt without investing a lot of time or money upfront. Additionally, once you start hosting travelers, Hipcamp only takes 10% of each transaction, leaving owners with the remaining 90% profit and a more significant piece of the pie by the end of a reservation.

Glamping Hub: Luxury and High-End Lodging

Glamping Hub’s dedication to curating a well-rounded and unique collection of outdoor listings makes it a one-of-a-kind in the glamping and outdoor rental industry. A self-proclaimed platform for “luxury camping accommodations,” their website is the ideal place for yurt owners whose properties boast exceptional views and luxury amenities. Yurts on Glamping Hub tend to do quite well because they attract folks looking for a weekend glamping experience in beautiful dwellings situated in inspiring locations. Their platform also boasts one of the more host-friendly user-experiences out there. Additionally, they only charge yurt owners a 4% commission fee for each confirmed booking instead of a standard listing fee. Are you struggling to create the perfect listing page? If so, their in-house team of writers will personally curate and optimize your listing to ensure it stays competitive across the platform to make things easier.

Where to Rent Your Pacific Yurt

We recommend listing your yurt on each of these platforms to increase reservations for heightened visibility. Even if you didn’t initially build your Pacific Yurt with an entrepreneurial mindset, the value of listing it on Airbnb, Hipcamp, or Glamping Hub is worth considering based on the income potential alone. Renting your yurt could mean earning additional income by simply placing it online and hosting guests that respect and admire the circular structure you built.

Want to make money while you’re on vacation? Interested in building affordable lodging to generate income? Turning a yurt into a rental property could be the right solution. In fact, Airbnb yurt rentals make for profitable investments for those interested in making additional income. These unique circular living spaces are becoming the go-to Airbnb choices for glampers and outdoor enthusiasts looking for a vacation rental property unlike any other. They’re also great investment properties because they’re affordable to build and less expensive to maintain compared to more traditional rental properties.

On average, Airbnb estimates hosts could make about $1,500 a month by using their service. However, most yurt Airbnb listings start at $55 per night. To get an estimate for your property, you can use Airbnb’s earnings potential estimation tool. The rental rate could certainly increase after accounting for amenities, location, and other quantifiable factors that can entice guests to book. While a variety of things determine the price of your yurt rental, here are a few ways to make your yurt vacation rental more successful.

“The yurt is finished and we have a steady stream of Airbnb guests paying upwards of $200 per night to stay in it. Their reviews are excellent. The Douglas Fir wood is wonderful. Makes our eastern SPF spruce/pine/fir look like balsa wood. Excellent craftsmanship. We chose Pacific Yurts for their reputation”– Dave Channon, New York

1. Rent your yurt in a natural and exciting area.

When looking at some of the best yurts on Airbnb, location is everything. We recommend showcasing your yurt’s proximity to recreational areas instead of how close it is to busier urban areas. Most glampers are interested in visiting natural landmarks like rock formations, hiking locations, or National Parks.  This means Airbnb vacation rentals situated along lakes and rivers, nature trails, or mountains are likely to have a higher rental rate and get more reservations.

2. List amenities that provide unforgettable glamping experiences.

Along with location, making the most money from your yurt listing on Airbnb also correlates with the amenities you offer. Yurts marketed as “outdoor getaways” tend to have more basic accommodations and offer a more rustic experience. These include things like natural kitchens (with outdoor cooking materials), propane-heated outdoor showers, or skylights for stargazing.

Consider offering your guests a luxurious glamping experience instead. Glampers will pay more for an elevated experience, which can include upscale amenities like hot tubs, and decks

with fire pits. Step up your guests’ adventures even more by providing outdoor activity kits with things like bikes, kayaks, and fishing gear. The more perks you add, the easier it is to increase your nightly rate anywhere from $100 to $150 per night.

3. Rent around holidays and popular travel seasons.

If you’re using your yurt as a dwelling and a rental rather than exclusively an investment property, availability plays a major role in the amount of money you can make on Airbnb. Try listing your yurt around major holidays, long weekends, and popular vacation seasons to attract more visitors and glampers. In fact, rental rates across the country increase 35 percent over the Thanksgiving holiday and 56 percent over the winter holidays. If you’re already planning to escape during a peak weekend, consider listing your yurt to make some extra money while you’re away on your adventure!

How Much Could You Make Renting your Pacific Yurt on Airbnb?

Investing in a Pacific Yurt is an excellent way to expand your earnings at a relatively low buy-in cost. If you’re still struggling to nail down a nightly rental rate for your Pacific Yurt, take a look at Airbnb’s cost calculator. It’s a good way to learn more about rental estimates based on the market and your area’s competition. Creating a pricing strategy for peak seasons, slow seasons, and in-between can also help increase how much you make.

With a plethora of enhancements available, our yurts provide sustainable rental properties with a high-ceiling for customization that could generate an average of $924 a month. This is assuming every weekend is booked and depends on factors such as amenities offered, seasonality and more.

No other home-sharing service has grown like Airbnb. From basic backyard rentals to extravagant mansions, Airbnb has successfully cornered the short-term rental market. Adventure-seekers and last-minute-trip-planners continue to flock to the platform for most (if not all) of their rental needs.

As the platform’s popularity has grown, so has the competition within its variety of listings. While more and more Pacific Yurts are added to Airbnb’s already extensive “unique homes” catalog, the competition between listings has become more intense. This makes it vital to know how to list your yurt in order to attract and retain guests.

Making Your Yurt Listing Stick

WYA Resort in British ColumbiaSuccessful yurt listings are all about presentation. Your yurt rental might offer a hot tub, WiFi, and a free breakfast buffet, but if you fail to advertise those things, travelers are more likely to book a different yurt. The good news is that Airbnb provides plenty of room for everyone, but you want your yurt listing to stand out on Ad news. And when it comes to creating your listing, there are a few simple strategies for making your rental stand out above the rest. Here are five ways you can make your yurt listing successful on Airbnb.

1. Create a powerful title and description that represents your yurt.

It can be hard to condense your yurt rental into 50 characters and a few sentences, but the best Airbnb listings have catchy titles and descriptions that attract clicks just like well-written ads. When crafting a title for your rental, avoid redundant location information, and try your best to include descriptive words that show the value of your rental in a succinct manner. Instead of “Outdoor Yurt in Southwest Washington” try something like “Modern Style Yurt in the Heart of WA’s Wilderness.”

The same rules ap1920px-Walker_Canyon_During_a_Poppy_Super_Bloomply for your description. Descriptions should be succinct and to the point when it comes to outlining your Pacific Yurt. If there’s something unique about your rental that distinguishes it over others, include that here, along with other valuable information travelers may want to know. As for formatting, try to keep your descriptions to simple bullet points, and include details only if they add value.

Pro tip: Change your title and description seasonally to coincide with well-known attractions if you can. Is your yurt close to skiing? Mention it throughout the winter. Is your yurt near a summer superbloom? Include it. You never know what might catch a traveler’s eye.

2. How to price your Pacific Yurt on Airbnb.

This is often one of the more challenging aspects of the Airbnb listing process. In the end, pricing your yurt is all about measuring the competition and naming an amount you feel is worth it. If you can, try to figure out where the “average” price is for your specific rental type and area. Additionally, Airbnb allows you to price your listing differently for weekends, weekdays, holidays, and seasons, so choose your targets accordingly, and consider a cleaning fee, late check-out fee, or other optional add-ons. You can also price your yurt higher if the date is further out, but don’t be afraid to reduce it if days start to go unbooked.

If you’re an advanced user or a newbie looking for more muscle power, automated Airbnb pricing tools like Wheelhouse or iGMS can help. These programs help by considering a variety of factors around pricing to maximize profits while maintaining a close eye on market trends and neighborhood competition.

3. Post quality (and tidy) pictures of your yurt on Airbnb.

Far and away, photos are often the first and last things guests evaluate before deciding to book any yurt. While you don’t 20' yurt exteriornecessarily have to invest in a professional photographer, make sure to include neat, spacious, and bright photos. Always stay away from photos that show unflattering angles of your rental, or images that make your space look small or unclean. Instead, focus on the unique elements of your yurt by showcasing its character with clean, engaging, and colorful pictures that entice guests to visit.

4. Invest in your Airbnb host profile.

Setting up your host profile can feel like an unnecessary annoyance, but the majority of repeat bookings on Airbnb are from hosts that are open, responsive, and friendly throughout the booking process. Put time into your profile by uploading a family-friendly, high-quality photo and include all of the necessary contact information for renters to reach you.

Establish your communication cadences up-front–even if it’s difficult to be available 24/7. Make it a habit to be as responsive as possible—responsive and friendly hosts are always the first to win bookings from the competition. Also do your best as a guest and a host to write thoughtful, positive reviews in order to establish yourself as a dependable Airbnb host.

5. List your yurt amenities in full (and be honest).

Glamping yurt with queen bed and sofa at Rancho PoquitoNothing separates the best from the rest like a complete list of amenities. Nothing also spoils your guests’ experiences like false advertising. If there’s a six-foot hot tub on your yurt property, don’t refer to it as a pool. If your shower unit offers only cold water, be sure to point that out. Yurts are among the most eco-friendly dwellings in the world today, so highlighting the environmental friendliness of your yurt home, including sustainable gardening or recycling practices, is another essential piece to your listing. Creating a phenomenal guest experience is all about quality and expectations. Being honest about what your yurt offers will ensure your guests are getting exactly what you offer, and nothing less.

Listing your Pacific Yurt on Airbnb

In the end, ensuring your listing is as honest and friendly as possible is critical to your success as an Airbnb host. If you have trouble throughout the listing process, Airbnb’s team of dedicated host helpers are there to make your journey to becoming an all-star host as simple and pleasant as possible.

Artists of every kind are finding that yurt studios are ideal for their creative work. Yurts provide a cost-effective and convenient work space that can be close to one’s living space, but still separate. This provides the physical and psychological boundaries needed between work—with all its necessary materials and gear—and play or rest in the home.

Beautiful Spaces

PY-Treebones ResortCreativity flows in a yurt because the space itself is conducive to it. And, as we’ve noted before, creative work is affected by the space it’s created in. Separate yurts for singers and artists also provide a dedicated space for meetings and creative jam sessions of all kinds.

Beautiful Sound

What recording artists are finding, whether they be singers or musicians, is that the sound quality in a yurt is surprisingly pleasant. A yurt is not a space a recording artist might normally consider good for sound because they are round.

Pacific Yurts Office studio yurtCircular rooms are sometimes found to be terrible for acoustics and recording, and this is certainly true for large round spaces, especially the grand marble or wood ones that frustrated the orators of the past with their odd echoes.

But, because of the fabric and lattice on the walls of a modern yurt, and the fact that the dome ceiling makes things interesting, recording artists are calling yurts some of the best recording spaces they’ve ever used.

Beautiful Shell

cozy yurt with musical instrumentRecording studios are usually built with an inner shell—a sort of room within a room—to keep the mass of the inner wall separate from the outer wall. This keeps outside noise, well … outside. The inner room is often built with different wall angles and lengths depending on the sound desired. Sounds waves are reflected strongly off of hard surfaces. The more mass the surface has, the more it reflects. Yurt walls seem to reflect just the right amount of sound, as long as the yurt is not near a busy road where the sounds outside the yurt would be a problem.

Some musicians are enjoying experimenting with the sound in a modern yurt, moving the microphone to different places to hear and appreciate the differences. It is recommended, though, that a recording artist who is considering a yurt studio try one first to see if the yurt offers the kind of sound they are looking for. Photo provided by @jorahgrace.

Music Lovers are Yurt Lovers

open yurt interiorMusic lovers in general have fallen head over heels for yurt stays during festival season. Companies have sprung up all over to serve the music festival industry. Builders will come onto the festival grounds to construct yurts, and rental companies will usually offer luxury options, such as furnishings and a stocked mini-fridge. They offer modern yurt rentals for festival goers to relax in after long days of dancing and singing in the summer sun of festival season.

Even Coachella, the crown jewel in the festival season crown, is now offering modern yurt rentals. On-site luxury yurts are available for concert-goers to stay in at the Resort at Coachella. Two guests can stay for up to 5 nights with a lot of perks (for a steep price), including all meals, a personal driver, and maid service. And of course, other festivals, especially those in the UK, such as the Cornbury Music Festival, have long-offered yurts for rental during their events.

If you are a recording artist, a music lover, or a creative of any kind, we believe you will love yurt life. Check out our stunning online gallery for yurt inspiration and ideas.

Anindor Vineyards YurtWe are excited to share with you that there is a growing connection between modern yurts and some of the best wineries in the country. Why is this exciting? Mainly because they are a perfect pairing! Yurts go beautifully with the pace and pleasantries of vineyards and wineries.

Some are using yurts as lodging for guests on site, which allows guests to stay for several days to rest and enjoy the flavors, while others are using yurts as tasting rooms, often decorating them in an elegant style.

Yurts and Wineries Blend Well Together

Purple grapes in California vineyardYurts and wineries share a peaceful, open characteristic. They are both of the land and the light. Yurt design naturally blends the inside with the outside, with site lines extending up and outward to the countryside.

Modern yurt design makes it easy to feel the connection between it all. Whether you are enjoying a tasting in a yurt or staying over in wine country, spending time in a yurt enhances the experience immensely.

A Yurt Stay in Wine Country

Bradley Vineyards yurt exteriorWe highly recommend the experience of a wine-country yurt. However, we do recommend you connect with the vineyard early in the season, as those offering yurt lodgings are often booked far in advance. We also suggest you clarify with the establishment what is provided or included in the lodging. Some yurt stays are all-inclusive, with luxury bedding and stocked mini-fridges. But others may require you bring your own lanterns or bedding.

Some vineyards have fine dining on site during the summer, but most of the smaller boutique wineries do not. If food is not available on site, take care to map out the area ahead of time, so you don’t have to go without cheese.
