Our new deluxe Porch Cover Kits have been a much-requested item from many customers over the years. Not only does a porch cover addition to your yurt look fantastic, it gives you more outdoor space in inclement weather: you’ll have space to shake off your raincoat or stomp your snow boots without carrying that moisture inside your yurt.  

You’ll also have that extra space in the spring and summer months to relax outdoors. Just imagine drinking your favorite beverage and enjoying your favorite adventure spot in the shade.  

The benefits don’t stop there; having a covered porch also provides added protection to your door, so that it will require less maintenance due to snow and rain over time.

Introducing XL Glass Windows 

Our new XL glass window systems feature windows that are 60×48 inches compared to our standard size windows. These larger windows have tons of benefits: you can see more of the beautiful landscape outside of your yurt and experience increased ventilation and air flow on warm days.  

These larger windows also have the safety benefit of added emergency egress. We know many of our customers have asked for something like this—or they opt for a second door. However, these larger windows can act as emergency egress, making them ideal if you don’t want a second door in your yurt. It’s always important to plan for safety in any building and our yurts are no different.

The dome opener mechanism, which raises the yurt’s dome for ventilation, responds to commands from a keychain remote control. Using this remote allows you to say goodbye to long extension handles when opening your yurt’s dome. Installation and usage of the power dome opener is painless. In little time, you’ll have a newfound ease of control over the operation of your yurt’s dome. 

What is the Benefit of a Power Dome Opener?

Depending on the climate you live in, maintaining a comfortable temperature inside your yurt can be a challenge. Hot summers demand the use of air conditioners or an increased airflow that helps keep the air throughout the yurt interior fresh and cool. On the other hand, chilly winters warrant a fully-insulated and heated yurt to keep the tenants comfortable. 

Having an easy path for fresh air to enter a yurt during a warm summer day is a refreshing way to keep your yurt cool and comfortable. A power dome opener helps promote natural convection cooling at the touch of a button. Cool air is pulled in through open windows or air conditioning unit while warm air is pushed out through the open dome. Imagine yurt windows—fabric flaps come to mind, right? Indeed, this is often the case—and many of our customers do not mind this rustic arrangement. For those who only stay in Pacific Yurts seasonally, fabric windows often suffice. However, other customers prefer conventional glass windows in their yurts. Although we had built prototypes in the early 80’s, we hadn’t had much demand until decades later. After fielding customer requests for window enhancement, we developed our glass windows.

Adding a regular window was akin to putting a square peg in a round hole—it was possible, but it resulted in an odd flat panel appearance. Until, our designers invented the industry’s first rounded window frames in the glass window system.

Glass Window System: A Leap Ahead in Yurt Design

Each window features a fully engineered wood frame surrounding energy efficient low-E thermal glass. Those who are looking to build energy efficient yurts will delight in the way these windows let in the light without squandering energy to heat loss. When the weather is delightful, you can open each window from the inside, while a screen will keep bugs out.

The window design delivers both performance and style. Our innovative fabric flange makes the glass window conform to the yurt’s circular shape and includes three trim color choices: Bronze, White or Tan. Finally, they are generously sized, at 48” wide by 39” high and are compatible with new or existing yurts.

We are proud of the long list of innovations over our history of building the highest quality modern yurts.  From reflective insulation and French doors to heavy-duty snow and wind upgrades, we have introduced most of the features that have made yurts tremendously popular in a variety of settings and applications.  Many of these innovations were developed in response to customer requests for options that would enhance their yurt experience.

One of the many benefits that yurts offer is their flexibility to be used in a wide variety of locations, and sometimes that means customers place the yurt atop a tall platform or on a steep mountain slope.  Since the standard yurt window opens from the outside we wanted to give these customers an easy option for opening any hard to reach windows without a wrap-around deck.

That issue has been solved through a mixture of ingenuity and technology.  We are pleased to introduce our latest, and one of our most exciting innovations to date- the Custom Curve Glass Window System.

The design utilizes a Low-E thermal glass window for maximum energy efficiency, and integrates a fabric flange into the window system to assure a weather-tight seal.  Custom Curve is the first window whose beautiful structurally engineered wood framework follows the curved wall of the yurt.  It thereby avoids the “flat panel” appearance of other systems and creates the most aesthetically appealing and versatile window available in a yurt today.

Beyond the visual appeal and thermal benefits, the most tangible advantage of the new window system is that it can be opened from inside.  By engineering the window’s top quality Douglas fir framework into the yurt design we have been able to eliminate the lattice framing that crisscrosses through the standard yurt window, thereby enhancing the view.

Our new window system can be installed virtually anywhere along the wall of our three largest yurt sizes (20′, 24′ & 30′).  It can be ordered with a new yurt or retrofitted to an existing Pacific Yurt, and easily lends itself to customization with shelving, wood panels or window treatments for a personalized look.
